Iraq & Afghanistan
It is imperative to note my opposition to the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Not for the sake of my own well being or any matter of ability of a 'told-you-so' but because the decision to invade a sovereign nation is one not to be taken lightly and it is a decision that must be held to the highest measure of critical thinking and assessment by the best in the fields related to the issues at hand. There was little if any evidence offered in the way of weapons of mass destruction or the threat of Saddam Hussein cohorting with Al Qaeda. Why was it such a quick and hasty decision to open a second theatre of war just a year after beginning what looked to be a protracted campaign in Afghanistan home of Al Qaeda and The Taliban? I have some assumptions but it would take much more than a single chapter to explain everything with enough clarity to actually comprehend the policies controlled by global corporations with their tentacles locked on to this American Congressional legislative system.
I don't want to seem like I am simply spouting typical partisan rhetoric, so I will show some important facts and examples that I believe portray George Bush as conquerer led by faith (and Dick Cheney) as he accurately is. Over the past two years we have seen evidence of this. I'm sure you have seen it on the news. Egypt, Syria, Libya, Yemen, and Tunisia as well as other nations have sought to overthrow their sometimes brutal always corrupt dictatorial regimes. Leaders who do things to the equivalent of the President of the United States cutting out Medicare and Food Stamps programs and keeping the money for himself, his family, and his friends. But that would never happen right? Uh yeah. Have you seen Paul Ryan's budget? Libyans murdered their former dictator leader in the streets only days after being overthrown from power. What did he do?
In the beginning back in 1969 Muammar Gaddafi led a military coup d'état against King Idris and launched what is commonly termed the Libyan Revolution [C1]. A few years after assuming control Gaddafi instituted a strict implementation of Sharia law, the religious law and moral code of Islam (Usually a list of things a dictator doesn't want anyone doing, other than him, ever.). And by strict interpretation I mean he began purging not only the military and government of the “politically sick”. Amnesty International estimates at least 25 assassinations took place on political dissidents that were enforced publicly and often rebroadcast on state television channels. [C2] Then in 1977 Gaddafi felt pressure around him so he passed 'power' to the General People's Committees, and the word power is in parenthesis because this move was nothing more than an end around as Gaddafi actually gained even more power over the years when per capita income rose quite modestly as well as other vast improvements in overall society in Libya. The main reason for this (other than oil revenue) is that Gaddafi was now manufacturing and selling weapons to several factions in Africa embattled in deep conflict. At times even arming opposite sides of the same conflict in the Chadian civil war. [C3] Muammar Gaddafi continued to have citizens put to death for disagreeing with his religious form of government.
So overall Mr. Gaddafi doesn't sound like all nice of a guy right? Sort of along the lines of Saddam Hussein who as we were told gassed his own citizens decades ago. Despite all of these nasty things however, Muammar Gaddafi maintained a comfortable relationship with ally Italy and times the United States [C4].
